Capacity building for health inspectors in inspection methods and techniques in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 2024

Democratic Republic of Congo, 2024

Since its creation in 2017, the General Health Inspectorate (IGS) in the Democratic Republic of Congo has played a key role in monitoring and improving the healthcare system. With a team of 80 health inspectors, including 26 in the provinces, with medical, pharmacist, nursing and health administration background, the IGS ensures the quality of healthcare and health services across the country.

To support the team in its ongoing development, following an initial need assessment in May 2024, EHESP-International is setting up a capacity-building programme with the IGS, which will run from October to December 2024. This project aims to strengthen the expertise of 50 health inspectors, including the 26 provincial inspectors, in the various legal, methodological and operational aspects of inspection missions.

To continue this on-going improvement and sharing of best practices in the future, a group of 10 selected inspectors will receive an additional training of trainers.

This initiative is part of a process of co-construction with local stakeholders, with the ultimate aim of embeding a sustainable initial training programme for inspectors in DRC.
