Following an exploratory mission in May 2024, Momar Faye, Deputy director of the Health Inspection Department at ARS Normandie, Dr Christine Ortmans, Head of the training programme for Public Health Inspectors (MISP) at EHESP, and Dr Coffi Megnigbeto, Pharmacien Inspecteur en Santé Publique (PHISP) at ARS Île-de-France, provided a training from 28 October to 1 November 2024 on capacity building in health inspection methods and techniques, for 50 inspectors from the Congolese General Health Inspectorate (IGS), including the 26 provincial medical inspectors. This training was followed, from 4 to 6 November, by a training of trainers for 13 relay inspectors, including 6 provincial inspectors, who will be responsible for disseminating the training and supporting the continuous improvement process within the team.
These training courses, which are part of a joint development to build the capacity of Congolese health inspectors, covered the theory and practice of health inspection in the administrative, nursing, medical and pharmaceutical fields, and provided the relay inspectors with teaching tools and leadership methods to develop training courses at national and provincial levels.
Feedback from the IGS and participants has been very positive. A number of plans were explored with an aim to continue to build the capacity of inspectors and to improve the Congolese inspection services. The importance of strengthening hospital management training in the country was also highlighted.
